BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Bailey Dowd, aquatics lead at Life Time Brookfield, joined us on Tuesday, May 20 to share seasonal water safety reminders as families prepare for summer activities in pools and lakes.
Dowd talked about the 25:10 rule, which advises that if a person cannot swim 25 meters continuously, a capable adult should remain within 10 feet at all times. Additional advice included maintaining direct visual contact with children, investing in swim lessons and understanding flotation device safety.
She also recommended a 1:3 ratio of swimmers to non-swimmers to ensure safe supervision, taking frequent breaks for hydration and sunscreen and pursuing CPR certification.
