Artists sought for permanent murals on Milwaukee’s Riverwalk

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 and the Downtown Placemaking Task Force, in partnership with the Milwaukee Riverwalk District, are seeking artists to design and install four new murals along the Milwaukee Riverwalk.

The request for proposals targets sites from Mason Street to Knapp Street in Downtown Milwaukee.

Erica Green, Director of Public Space Initiatives for Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21, stated in a press release on Thursday, July 11 Wednesday that the city's Riverwalk is nationally known for its art, with the goal of the new murals being to cultivate new conversations about dynamic art.

"Downtown has established itself as a burgeoning arts destination and we look forward to further enhancing our public realm," Green said.

The request for proposals identifies four locations for the murals, including the west-facing wall at the Marcus Performing Arts Center and the east-facing wall below the Knapp Street Bridge.

Each site presents varying canvas sizes, with the largest spanning 2,700 square feet.

Submissions are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2. Interested artists can click here for additional information.
