Authorities investigate Saturday night shelter in place incident in Oconomowoc

OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Hartford Police Department (HPD) is investigating an incident that caused a shelter in place incident for multiple hours in Oconomowoc Saturday night, Dec.18.

According to police reports, on Saturday, following a vehicle pursuit earlier in the evening, Hartford Police received an automated license plate camera hit regarding a vehicle with a stolen plate inbound to a Walmart parking lot.

Officials indicate that an officer located the suspect vehicle occupied with one female passenger, backed into a parking stall, running without a front license plate displayed.

Police also reportedly obtained that the vehicle may have been involved in an armed robbery in the City of Elkhorn.

Records show that the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle,  however, the vehicle fled westbound on Hwy 60 from Liberty Ave. Officers reportedly pursued the suspect vehicle near the City of Oconomowoc.

Authorities say that the suspect ended up traveling down a dead-end road in Oconomowoc where the vehicle crashed into a ravine.

The two suspects in the vehicle reportedly fled from the vehicle and an officer chased them on foot.

The chase led to the suspects running across a highway where police lost a visual of the individuals.

Later that night, the Oconomowoc Police Department reportedly received a call that a female suspect had broken into a residence in Oconomowoc.

Police say the female suspect was requesting that the homeowner give her a ride to Milwaukee.

A short time later, a Waukesha County Deputy and a Hartford Officer arrived at the residence and took the female suspect into custody.

Hartford police say that the driver, a male suspect, was located by a Waukesha County Deputy at a nearby bar in Oconomowoc and was taken into custody.

Local authorities add that information was later obtained that the male suspect stole multiple items from the Hartford Walmart just prior to the Saturday night police chase.

Officials say the stolen items were later recovered from inside the vehicle along with drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Records reveal that the female suspect was wanted on one misdemeanor, and three felony warrants.

Criminal charges are reportedly pending on both suspects as this case remains under investigation.
