Back-to-school breakfast tips from More Happy Kitchens
CEDARBURG, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Life can get hectic when the kids go back to school. No one knows that better than Lauren O'Brien and Sally Wagner. The two local moms started More Happy Kitchens last year to help get kids and parents into the kitchen together. Just because school is back in session, doesn't mean breakfast should be put on the back burner. In fact, it's more important than ever that kids fill their bellies with a hearty meal before filling their brains in the classroom.
"We teach kids to cook," said Sally Wagner of More Happy Kitchens.
The duo holds classes all year long at various locations like the Milwaukee Public Market, the Mequon Public Market and Chef Pam's Kitchen in Waukesha.
The classes use ingredients you likely already have in your house. Wagner and O'Brien say it's never too early to get kids familiar with kitchen utensils, and it all starts with chopping, mixing and whisking.
"Maybe just by chopping or cutting the vegetable they might try a piece of it that they've never tried," said O'Brien.
They also offer a breakfast guide with 10 recipes that you can easily download and stick on your refrigerator.
"A lot of these recipes in our guide, the best way to make them would be like in a batch maybe a Sunday or Saturday afternoon, at a time you're not rushing around. The mornings are chaotic," said O'Brien. "They're busy, you're making lunches, kids are eating, everyone's trying to rush out to get to the bus on time."
It's something every parent has experienced.
"Oh my gosh, everyone knows how crazy mornings are, especially back-to-school," said Wagner.

They have, both, parent-child classes and independent classes for kids five and older.
