Badgers center to forgo bowl game, declare for draft

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Badgers starting center Joe Tippmann will forgo the Guaranteed Rate Bowl and declare for the 2023 NFL Draft.

He made the announcement on his Twitter today.

Tippman was a four-star prospect coming out of high school from Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Tippman had a productive career with the Badgers. Much of his success came in 2021, where he helped the Badgers have the second-best rushing offense in the Big Ten.

Tippman joins the plethora of Badgers offensive lineman now at the next level. The most recent Badgers offensive lineman drafted was Logan Brown, who was selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Tippman wasn't the only Badger to declare for the draft today. Cornerback and UCLA transfer Jay Shaw also announced he was going to forgo the bowl game and enter the draft as well.

The Badgers take on Oklahoma State in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Dec. 27.

The 2023 NFL Draft will be held in Kansas City on April 27-29.
