The Basilica of Saint Josaphat Foundation launched its $7.5 million fundraising campaign to preserve and restore the south side landmark on Wednesday.

The foundation says the exterior of the basilica hasn't been updated since 1992 and it is now in desperate need of repairs.

The money will be used to fix the basilica's deteriorating stone and roof ledges, and to light the distinctive dome.

A bus shelter was built to resemble the basilica to raise awareness about the money raising efforts.

There will also be digital billboards up around the city for the next ten weeks.
