Bernie's Book Bank holds ribbon cutting, aims to increase accessibility to books for local kids

GLENDALE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Bernie's Book Bank, a nonprofit that delivers free books to children in need, held a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday, July 22. It all started in founder Brian Floriani's garage in 2009.

The new facility is located in Glendale, hoping to not only deliver free books, but high-quality ones. 

A groundbreaking took place last fall on their first permanent facility outside of the Chicago land area. 

Floriani spoke at the Wednesday ceremony, saying, "It's important to me on a personal level because I think Bernie, my father, was the children we serve today. We want to give all the children we served to today, and the ones we don't yet, the same opportunity he had, and that was the opportunity to read his way to a better life."

Bernie's Book Bank has delivered nearly 30 million books, with goals now of helping 100,000 local kids.
