MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Tens of thousands of people attended the grand opening of Milwaukee’s new sports and entertainment arena, Fiserv Forum.

The new home of the NBA Milwaukee Bucks, players past and present were at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, including Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Bucks president Peter Feigin boasted about the facility's design. "This day is the culmination of extraordinary vision, tireless work and flawless execution, there are literally thousands of people to thank."

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett thanked the city.

"I also wanna thank the fans because this would not happen if we did not have the best fans in the world and all of us here recognize that, all of us know that."

Governor Walker said it wasn't only a good deal, but a "great" deal for the state. "For every dollar the state invests in making this happen, you get a return of almost three dollars, three to one return over the next 20 years," Walker said. "That's a pretty good deal and and a pretty good model, commissioner for other areas across the nation."

Milwaukee Common Council President Ashanti Hamilton echoed those sentiments.

"There were town halls all across the city of Milwaukee in every neighborhood, especially those that had a high unemployment rate to try to connect those who were living in the neighborhoods to the job opportunities that presented themselves," he said.

During the ceremony, Bucks owners spoke briefly about the area around the arena being built. They said Fiserv Forum will revitalize the downtown community.
