MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Officials at the Milwaukee County Zoo say their new elephant enclosure wasn't done right. Now, they're suing the company that handled it.
Milwaukee County Board Supervisors voted 16-0 to pursue the lawsuit after officials say they spent $250,000 in changes because of errors made on an exhibit.
The lawsuit surrounds a $16 million construction project on the Zoo's Adventure Africa Elephant Exhibit that began in 2017. The county is suing Milwaukee-based architectural firm Hammel Green and Abrahamson Incorporated and Pewaukee-based VJS Construction Services Incorporated. Milwaukee County's deputy corporation counsel filed communication with the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors seeming approval to file the lawsuit and they voted Thursday morning.
CBS 58 reached out to both companies for comment. VJS Construction said they are trying to resolve the matter in arbitration before the lawsuit goes to court. Hammel Green and Abrahamson have not yet responded.
