Body found in pond after stolen vehicle crash near Illinois border
PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A body was found in a pond after a stolen vehicle crash on Saturday, March 16.
According to the Pleasant Prairie Police Department, they were notified of a stolen vehicle crash near Delaney and Russell around 4:36 a.m.
Officials say the Lake County Sheriff's Department had pursued the stolen vehicle and terminated the pursuit. After the chase was discontinued, the deputy saw the vehicle in front of him. Police say the driver crashed when they didn't navigate a curve.
The deputy saw the driver flee the car on foot.
A search was conducted with K-9's and drones initially, but the suspect was not located.
Around 9:21 a.m., Pleasant Prairie Fire and Rescue and police recovered a body from a pond.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, the body is believed to be the driver, as the clothing worn seems to match.
An investigation is ongoing.
