Body camera video released from March 8 fatal officer-involved shooting
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) released new video that shows the moments leading up to an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a 41-year-old man.
There were three videos released – two officers’ body cameras and one dashboard camera recording. In the video, the officers are heard repeatedly telling each other that the suspects are armed.
On Saturday, March 8, Milwaukee police say they responded to a call on the 5100 block of N. 32nd Street for a burglary. Police say the caller reported there were two suspects and one of them fired shots their way.
In dash cam video, an officer can be seen driving towards the 5000 block of N. 37th Street and telling two suspects to show their hands. That's when the suspects are seen running.
In the body camera video, an officer can be heard telling the suspects to get on the ground. Then three shots are heard.
The officers are then heard saying the suspect shot still has a gun in his right hand. In a third body camera video, the officers are seen searching the suspect that was fatally shot and handcuffing the second suspect. The suspect that was fatally shot was identified as 41-year-old Anthony Virginia.
Police say Virginia's firearm was recovered next to him. Milwaukee police did not supply bodycam from all the officers at the scene.
The second suspect, a 34-year-old man, was charged with burglary.
The officer who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative leave.
