MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Marquette University is offering a course called "The Theology of Horror," allowing students to examine Christian theological traditions through the lens of horror films. Rev. Ryan Duns, S.J., assistant chair and assistant professor of theology, teaches the course, and he joined us to discuss details on Thursday, Oct. 31.
Father Duns has an upcoming book titled "Theology of Horror: The Hidden Depths of Popular Films," which analyzes theological and philosophical themes in horror movies. The book discusses how films like "The Blair Witch Project," "A Nightmare on Elm Street," "Candyman" and "The Purge" serve as gateways to deeper reflection.
