MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Brewers are one win or one Atlanta Braves loss away from clinching a first-round bye in the postseason for the fourth time in the last nine seasons. Milwaukee currently holds the best record in the National League, while Atlanta sits in third.
The top two teams in the National League earn a bye in the Wild Card round and a spot in the Divisional series, and because the Brew Crew are six games up on the Braves with only six games left in the regular season, the magic number is down to one for the Brewers to automatically punch their ticket to the NLDS.
The best record in the National League is also up for grabs, which would secure home field advantage up until the World Series.
The Brewers hold a two-game lead over the second-place Dodgers, so the magic number is at four for Milwaukee to lock up the top seed in the NL for the second straight year. So, any combination of Brewers wins and Dodgers losses that equal four gives the Crew home field throughout the playoffs.
