Brewers' Brandon Woodruff out for Wild Card series due to shoulder injury

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Brewers postseason hopes have taken a hit before the playoffs even get underway.

Brewers Manager Craig Counsell announced Monday right-hander Brandon Woodruff will miss at least the National League Wild Card Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks due to a right shoulder injury. Counsell added Woodruff's status for the rest of the playoffs is unknown.

Woodruff missed much of the first half of the season with shoulder inflammation before returning in early August. From there, he racked up a 5-1 record with a 2.28 ERA in 11 starts.

The injury to the Brewers star right-hander is a blow to a starting rotation many experts believed could help the Brewers make a deep playoff run.
