Brewers fans brave extreme heat to cheer on their home team
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Things were heating up at American Family Field for fans as they endured extreme heat on Monday.
"Yeah, like, it’s just so hot,” said Ty Burgenske, a young Brewers fan.
Loyal fans braved the heat on Monday.
“Super sweaty because the sun is out,” said Brewers fan Charlotte Schuchart.
From sunscreen to tents, handheld fans and a lot of cold beverages, fans used every method possible to keep cool before seeing the Brew Crew in action.
“Drinking water, lots of water, and eventually a beer,” said fan Lynn Mulvey.
With temperatures in the 90s forecasted for all three days of the Brewers series against the Reds, Emergency Medicine Specialist Dr. Chris Ford says it's important for people to remember heat exhaustion and stroke are preventable.
"In those cases, you know, we tell people to reduce the amount of alcohol intake that they are going to have and replace that with something that is electrolyte rich, so Gatorade," said Dr. Ford.
He says when tailgating in the extreme heat, listen to your body -- and hydration is key.
"We recommend that people drink at least a quart of water every hour, depending on your activity, and you know, if you are out there on the black top, you know, of the tailgating venue, that can just be standing around."
Fans say they will continue to push on, because no temperature is too hot to cheer on the Brewers.
“I haven’t been to a Brewers game in a long time, so this is awesome, it’s all a part of the experience,” said fan Mary Martin.
