Reflecting on a historic run for Milwaukee Panthers baseball
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A group of churches has worked together to help local families pay off their medical debt.
It's an unusual fundraiser led by Peace United Methodist Church of Brookfield.
They worked with other Methodist churches to raise $29,000 to pay off the bills for low-income families.
The pastor, Reverend Allie Scott, says this fundraiser goes hand-in-hand with the church's mission.
"In the gospel that I preach every Sunday, we talk about good news to the poor and releasing the captives from that which is holding them back," Rev. Scott said. "And we all know someone how's felt trapped by medical debt that they didn't see coming. And so it felt really good to embody that."
Rev. Scott says so far, only half of the donations will be used, so more families will have their debt retired.
