Budget reallocation puts South Milwaukee school nurse's position in jeopardy
SOUTH MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There was a packed house in South Milwaukee Wednesday night, in support of a school nurse who could lose her job because of budget reallocation.
"We don't just hand out band-aids and ice packs. We don't just take temperatures and call home."
Trish Heller is a part-time school nurse.
She works three hours a day at a South Milwaukee school and has a second job so she can receive benefits.
Heller says this is more than just a job.
"I don't do this job for the money," said Trish. "I do this job for every single student in this room, the thousand students that didn't come and go to the high school. I do this because I love my students. They are my kids."
School officials did not make a decision on the overall budget or on the nurse position Wednesday night.
There is a full-time nurse for the entire district.
