MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The building that housed Wisconsin's oldest continually operating gay bar has been nominated for local historic designation. 

This Is It! closed unexpectedly in March after serving as a gathering space for Milwaukee's LGBTQ+ community for decades. The bar was founded in 1968 and was one of the oldest LGBTQ+ bars in the country. 

According to the Historic Preservation Commission, staff members are researching and writing a historic study report and recommendation for the building. 

The commission says the application will be heard at a June 2 meeting.

From there, it would go on to the Zoning, Neighborhoods, and Development Committee for recommendation to the full Common Council, before receiving the mayor's signature.
