WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Graduation came a little early for one student at Carroll University in Waukesha.

Reed Breckheimer got his diploma Tuesday, May 5 due to a very rare opportunity.

Breckheimer was an All-American tight end on the Carroll football team, and now he's been invited to the Miami Dolphins' rookie minicamp.

Only four players on the Division 3 level have gotten this kind of invitation, and because Breckheimer has to leave for Florida before the school's official graduation ceremony, the university set up a special diploma presentation for him, his family and his friends.

"Oh, it feels awesome," Breckheimer said. "When I first figured out we were doing this, I thought it was gonna be like a five-minute thing, and my parents and family are from two hours away, so I was like, you guys don't really have to come. My dad called me and was like, yep, everyone's coming. I was like, alright, sweet, let's get it done."

"He's a phenomenal student, a great teammate," said Mike Budziszewski, head football coach. "He's every coach's dream. And the work that he has put in to better himself and this program has really been vindicated by this opportunity in the NFL."

It's a longshot for a small college player like Breckheimer to make it in the NFL, but it happens, and this young man has his foot in the door. We congratulate him and wish him well.
