CBS 58's Hometown Athlete: DSHA grad Jadin O'Brien trying for rare winter/summer Olympic appearance
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Jadin O'Brien loves a good challenge.
"I competed as a heptathlete for the University of Notre Dame," O'Brien says. "And right after my last track meet representing the Fighting Irish last August, I accepted an invitation to try out for the bobsled team out in Lake Placid, New York."
O'Brien recently signed autographs for kids at the Summit Educational Association job fair. Not as a track athlete but as a winter Olympian in bobsled.
"So, I took a leap of faith," O'Brien says. "I had two weeks to learn the sport and somehow made the team. And fast forward a month and a half later and I'm being sent out to Europe for the next four months."
Questions from kids? Priceless.
"Well, it was funny. When I first arrived, they were like, 'Are you an astronaut?'"
Her Milan experience? Incredible.
"And I just remember even being at the opening ceremony and just like crying," O'Brien says.
But now she's just crazy enough for a new challenge.
"So now I'm in the process of transitioning back to track and field, to hopefully make the LA '28 Summer Games in the heptathlon," O'Brien says. "So I'll be moving back to Notre Dame. I'll be training with my college coach. So I'm excited, yeah. I'm taking on another challenge and trying to become one of the few athletes who've been able to compete in both summer and winter."
