CBS 58's Hometown Athlete: Knueppel 5 at home and back on the 'Konplex'
WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- When Kon Knueppel is home, the Knueppel five gets on the "Konplex" -- named after their dad.
"Sleeping in the old bed," Kon Knueppel says. "And just having some family time."
"Obviously that's big Kon on Konplex signs," says Kon Knueppel.
And roll call is taken.
Kon, Kager, Kinston, Kash, Kidman. Five brothers. All with hoops in the fiber of the family.
"It's for pride," Kinston Knueppel says. "And you wanna win that game. And you have bragging rights over them until the next time you play."
"Two-on-two going in," Kager Knueppel says. "In the family room. And it got fiesty. But at the end of the day, it was really fun."
"Basketball just makes us so connected," Kash Knueppel says. "It's a team sport, and like everything you do in life is team. A family, it's a team."
"It's like a blessing from God," Kidman Knueppel says. "Just to be able to watch all my brothers play. It's really fun."
On this night, the youngest, Kidman, gets one on the NBA's Kon.
"Kid's good," Kon says. "Kid's good. He's just waiting for his body to catch up on him a little bit but he's feisty."
"It's just kind of funny, honestly," Kidman says. "It's cool, yeah," Kidman says with a laugh.
And since they're brothers, you know it's not all just fun and games.
"Sometimes it's not even basketball anymore," Kager says. "It's just, it's crazy. Just hugging each other. Throwing each other to the ground. It gets crazy."
"It's always about the stupidest stuff," Kidman says.
"A lot of guys only wanna play half the game," Kon says. "So no, I'd say, I'd say they all compete on the defensive end for the most part. They just didn't want to today. They didn't want the smoke in one-on-one."
But in the end, they're brothers. And a family basketball bond that can't be broken.
"My mom keeps it going...and my dad keeps it fun," Kager says.
"It brings back all the memories from growing up," Kinston says. "All of us being together every single day. And it's just a good reminder that it changes so fast."
Faith fuels them.
"Putting that hard work into basketball," Kinston says. "And then being a good Christian, dude, along with basketball, it's like huge things in our lives."
"What do good Christian dudes do?" Kon says. "They work hard. They have fun. They know when to balance both of them. Being good to others."
So while the younger brothers look up to big bro Kon, Kon continues to admire and inspire his younger brothers.
"He like went to Phoenix to have a workout with Devin Booker," Kash says. "Like, that's pretty cool. And just playing against all these crazy guys that you grew up watching."
"Incredibly proud," Kinston says. "Just trying to replicate that. Work as hard as he works and try to get as high level as he is."
"Kage, I really admire his ability to, especially on the court but in all areas of life, just kind of be unphased," Kon says. "Kinston is super clever and he's not afraid to give you some words. Talk a little crap. Kash is just a smart guy. Knows a lot of stuff and I think it's cool, you know, we're a big basketball family but he has a bunch of interests too. And then Kiddy, you know, he's still trying to figure it out."
A short summer homecoming on the court that made them the new version of the flying Knueppel brothers.
"You get caught up with the busyness of life," Kon says. "And so when they take the time to send a text or call me, it's real nice."
