Celebration held for kids on final week of SHARP Literacy's Summer Learning Program
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A celebration was held at the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center Tuesday, as kids from all different grades finish up SHARP Literacy's Summer Learning Program this week.
"We help prevent the 'summer slide,' is what it's called," said Lynda Welsh, president and CEO of SHARP.
Their Summer Learning Program keeps kids reading, working on STEM programs and art projects after their regular school year is over.
"It's so important, because you know, statistics show that when the students end the school year, and if they don't do anything until the start of the next school year, they really lose a lot of what they've learned over the whole school year," Welsh said.
This is the sixth and final week of the summer learning program. Tuesday's celebration included activities, games, and food for the kids.
The Brewers Community Foundation is one of many sponsors who support this effort.
