Charges filed against Milwaukee man in July 27 hit-and-run death
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 47-year-old Milwaukee man is facing charges in connection with a fatal hit and run that occurred on Saturday, July 27 at around 2:30 a.m. Officials say it all took place near 14th and North, resulting in the death of 57-year-old Carla Tyson.
According to the criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County, David Terrell Hall was driving a Dodge Ram truck eastbound on North Avenue when he struck Tyson, who was crossing the street. Officials say that video surveillance shows the truck did not stop after the crash, but instead, continued driving.
Around 30 seconds later, the complaint says that a Milwaukee Police Dept. squad vehicle, traveling to another call for service, ran over Tyson, who was lying in the street.
The squad vehicle's officers then pulled over and approached Tyson, who was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2:50 a.m.
Investigators reportedly identified Hall’s vehicle through debris found at the scene and surveillance footage. The Dodge Ram, with a damaged headlight and grill, was located at a residence associated with Hall.
According to officials, Hall admitted during an interview that he was driving the truck at the time but claimed he did not realize he had hit a person.
Hall is charged with hit and run resulting in death, a Class D felony, which carries a potential sentence of up to 25 years in prison and a $100,000 fine. He also faces a charge of felony bail jumping, as he was out on bond for a previous felony offense.
