MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 17-year-old boy has been charged with reckless homicide in connection with the shooting death of 15-year-old Azoria Jones.
Jones was shot Sept. 21 near 76th and Silver Spring.
According to a criminal complaint, investigators used surveillance video from a Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) bus to track down the shooter.
The accused has been identified as Javier Smith of Milwaukee.
The criminal complaint says Smith and Jones were walking on Silver Spring Drive when a gun Smith had on him went off.
Multiple witnesses reported seeing Smith lean over Jones after the shooting yelling out words to the effect of, "Stop playing girl," and, "Are you okay? Wake up."
Smith fled the area shortly after the shooting, according to officials and was later arrested at a family member's residence on 58th Street.
According to the complaint, while being interviewed, Smith admitted he was the one who shot Jones, saying he had put his gun under his arm and it "went off."
Smith reportedly disassembled the gun and tossed it in a sewer.
Smith has been charged with one count of first-degree reckless homicide, use of a dangerous weapon, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18.
Smith is due in court for an initial appearance Sept. 29.
