Chefs at Happy Place Cooking Space in Cedarburg share tips for feeding kids a healthy, filling breakfast during the school year
CEDARBURG, Wis. (CBS 58) -- With back-to-school season upon us, mornings may get more hectic for families, and getting kids to eat a filling and nutrient-rich breakfast before heading off to class can be difficult.
Co-founder of Happy Place Cooking Space, Sally Wagner, says it's all about being prepared ahead of that first day of school.
"I find that meal prepping and planning ahead for breakfast, now, is the best tool," said Wagner. "Labor Day weekend I actually always take at least a day to prep as much as I can, and get into my freezer some mini muffins, egg sandwiches ... anything you can do to prep ahead so those busy mornings get easier."
HERE are some quick recipes they recommend.
Some of her favorite meals to prep ahead of time include breakfast sandwiches: eggs, veggies and cheese on an English muffin, and pancakes filled with veggies and cheese.
Meal prepping can also help kids get involved with the process.
"We find it all the time in our classes that when kids are involved in the kitchen and they're helping prep their snacks and dinners and breakfasts, they're way more likely to try things and try new things including fruits and vegetables," said Wagner.
If you want some recipe ideas, or tips for different adaptable tools for kids to use in the kitchen, Happy Place Cooking Space has a variety of fall classes for kids and adults of all abilities.
Classes starting in September include classes for preschoolers, after school classes and even no-school-day classes.
