Children's Wisconsin nurse surprised with $25K for impact on children and families facing cancer
Northwestern Mutual Foundation MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Northwestern Mutual made a surprise visit to Children's Wisconsin MACC Fund Center Wednesday, Sept. 23, to recognize a special nurse in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Registered nurse Katy Tomlinson received Northwestern Mutual's inaugural Childhood Cancer Healthcare Hero Award, along with $25,000 for her impact on children and families facing cancer.
"It takes so many people to help the patient and family go through the entire process -- from the time of diagnosis, treatment, to hopefully life cancer free. Always want to shine a life on those remarkable people who are making a difference in so many children's lives," said Steve Radke, president of the Northwestern Mutual Foundation.
Northwestern Mutual says this is part of a broader commitment to support hospitals and the childhood cancer community.
The company announced a new commitment through their foundation Tuesday, to support families affected by childhood cancer. They're awarding $100,000 to Children's Wisconsin MACC Fund Center, with additional hospitals to be announced in 2027.
