MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee has been a 'Tree City USA' for more than four decades but continues to work on enhancing its green reputation.
An event today in the King Park neighborhood focused on the observing canopying trees in the neighborhood and highlighting arborists that are conducting studies on the trees themselves.
A press conference followed, in which _ discussed how the city will use a $12 million grant from the Department of Agriculture to address tree disparities throughout the city.
"This amazing work will bring the additional benefits of improved air quality, reduced flooding, storm water run-off, savings of heating and cooling costs, improved physical health as well as mental wealth being for community members in neighborhoods literally all across Milwaukee," said Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson.
The event concluded with a ceremonial tree planting with Mayor Cavalier Johnson, County Executive David Crowley, and other city officials.
