MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A new effort to improve relations between the City of Milwaukee and the Police Department began on Friday.
Common Council President Ashanti Hamilton introduced members of a collaborative committee who will address some of the issues that have come up in recent years.
Hamilton had a message for whoever replaces retiring police chief Ed Flynn.
"The next chief, both the permanent chief and the interim chief, should be committed to continuing out this collaborative process. It's been pretty clear that reform in a new direction is necessary," Hamilton said.
Hamilton says the committee will continue the work that was started after last year's justice department report on police-community relations in Milwaukee.
