Contreras and Yelich named ASG Starters
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- For the first time in half a decade, the Brewers will be represented in the National League's starting lineup.
Christian Yelich and William Contreras were named All-Star starters for the Senior Circuit on Wednesday night. The nods are Yelich's third and Contreras' second, with both being their second starts. Yelich was the most recent Brewer to start the Midsummer classic, leading off in 2019. Contreras started as the NL's designated hitter in 2022.
Yelich, the only Brewer to ever win a batting title, is on-pace to win the third such crown of his career. He's hit eight home runs, scoring 36 and driving in 36 runs, respectively.
Contreras leads all National League catchers in games, plate appearances, runs, RBIs, stolen bases, in addition to batting average and on-base percentage among qualified catchers.
The last time multiple Brewers started the All-Star Game was 2014 when Jonathan Lucroy, Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Gomez represented the Crew.
The All-Star Game will be hosted by the Rangers in Arlington, Texas on Tuesday, July 16.
