Council votes to approve Emergency Preparedness Committee after false alarm at Zeidler building

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Common Council voted to approve a new City Hall Emergency Preparedness Committee Tuesday.

Alders proposed the new committee after a report of gunfire in the Zeidler building turned out to be a false alarm

That caused debate after the mayor's chief of staff told the Public Health and Safety Committee that he's already been working on safety measures.

Frustrated alders told him they heard no updates about progress or security changes from the executive team.

After the vote to approve the committee, council president Jose Perez said, "The council should be at the table, in collaboration with the administration, assisting in the development of meaningful protocols to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all city staff."
