COVID-19 UK variant strain confirmed in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Washington County resident has been confirmed to have the new B.1.1.7 COVID-19 UK variant strain.

The Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department was notified by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on March 12.

The strain was first identified in Wisconsin on Jan. 12.

As new strains begin to emerge and spread more easily, the health department wants to remind community members to wear a mask in public, practice physical distancing, get tested after an exposure and most importantly, get the vaccine when able.

Testing is available Monday-Friday at the Ozaukee County Fairgrounds and Washington County Fair Park.
