MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Two highway employees were struck on I-94 Tuesday morning, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.
Officials say the Milwaukee County Department of Transportation's South Shop Highway Maintenance Crew was working on repairs in the distress lane of the I-94 NB off-ramp to the Airport spur around 3 a.m. when a vehicle veered into the distress lane, striking the back of one of the crew's large plow trucks.
The striking vehicle then spun out of control, hitting two workers -- a 39-year-old man and 25-year-old man. Both were responsive when EMS arrived and were taken to an area hospital along with the driver, a 23-year-old man.
Authorities say all were treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.
The sheriff's office says the driver had been driving to work when the collision occurred and acknowledged that he had fallen asleep.
He was cited for inattentive driving and speeding.
