MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Fire crews worked to put out a fire near MLK and Chambers on Sunday, Dec.1.
It happened right across the street from Rose Park in the Harambee neighborhood.
MFD says they were called out around 8:04 p.m. as the building showed heavy smoke coming from all sides.
They believe the building was likely used for storage and was not occupied at the time of the fire, though officials tell CBS 58 there were "hoarder-like conditions" inside the building. There were no injuries to firefighters or anyone else.
The fire is believed to have started in the basement and spread to the upper floors, and there was a partial collapse of the roof and the first floor.
“The fire was primarily attacked from towers throwing water from a high point advantage," Lt. Carlos Velazquez Sanchez, of the Milwaukee Fire Department, told CBS 58. “As a result, there was a partial collapse to the roof and the first floor of the building which prevented companies from gaining access into the building afterward.”
Around 50 firefighters were on scene battling the flames for a couple hours, with the amount of water being used leading street flooding to be a concern.
