MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee fire crews responded to a large fire at a waste management transfer station Wednesday night, Sept. 2, off N. Industrial Road.

Firefighters responded to the station around 5 p.m., according to the Department of Public Works (DPW); the transfer station was closed at the time of the incident.

DPW says garbage trucks bring collected material to the station before it's taken to a waste management facility.

The fire department said crews were wrapping up at the scene as of 8:45 p.m., and no injuries were reported. 

DPW says while the Self-Help Center on Industrial Road was unaffected, it will be closed Thursday, Sept. 3, due to its proximity to the fire.

The Lincoln Avenue Self-Help Center will remain open during normal operating hours Thursday. 

Officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the extent of damage has not yet been determined.
