Crime Stoppers: Woman narrowly escapes carjacking in Pick 'n Save parking lot
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- When we hear about all of the crime happening in Milwaukee, some people may get scared or worried for their safety. But one woman who was nearly carjacked said she's glad it happened.
"I got to see in the face of the children that we are praying for that actually need Jesus," said Edith, victim.
It was God's work that led Edith to the Pick 'n Save parking lot on 57th and Capitol, where she says on June 29, kids tried to steal her ride and ended up giving her joy.
Milwaukee police say they have surveillance images of the boys from three different times that day.
Edith was just supposed to be taking a friend home from church who didn't have a ride. While she's sitting in the car waiting for her friend to finish shopping, cameras captured the teens roaming around inside the store. Then the teens go outside and walk up to Edith's car door.
"They're standing there and blocking me saying, 'Get out the car'' And I am saying you need Jesus. I'm feeling it now. You need Jesus! That's all that could come out," said Edith.
In that moment, Edith knew she was right where she was supposed to be.
"The young man I could see his face breaking. The other one wasn't moving, I could see a stone look on him," said Edith.
In the video, you can see one kid move around to get in the driver's seat and the other hop in the back.
"The young man put the car in drive and he's gonna go forward, and I turned to him and am like you need Jesus...I grabbed the Bible off the dashboard and I grabbed the steering wheel and I am like, 'You need Jesus. You need Jesus.' He still trying to drive and the other one is jabbing me in my side, Edith explained.
It all lasted about a minute, and after the car hit a median, they took off -- leaving her car with thousands of dollars in damage.
"God's going to bless me to get the car repaired," Edith said.
"I need them to get caught because we didn't finish our service. They need Jesus. They left before alter call," Edith said.
