Crowley provides update on Milwaukee County flood damage assessments

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee County officials say more than 3,400 homes have been inspected following last week’s flooding, with over half of that number considered destroyed or having major damage. Municipalities are also reporting more than $34 million in preliminary infrastructure losses.
County Executive David Crowley toured neighborhoods and said he heard stories of hardship but also saw residents supporting one another, according to a Tuesday, Aug. 19 press release. He thanked emergency crews and volunteers for completing assessments and connecting residents with resources.
OEM is now preparing for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s arrival, expected as soon as Thursday, Aug. 21. FEMA will conduct a preliminary damage assessment, the next step before a potential federal disaster declaration.
To date, more than 12,000 damage reports have been filed by residents calling 2-1-1, and people are urged to continue reporting to qualify for future assistance, while volunteer groups can register with Crisis Cleanup to coordinate relief.
Officials also remind residents to verify credentials of anyone conducting inspections and to report suspected fraud.
