CUDAHY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Cudahy couple has been charged with child neglect after three of their seven children tested positive for cocaine. The couple, aged 31 and 29, are facing multiple charges following an investigation by the Cudahy Police Department, according to a criminal complaint.

CBS 58 has made the decision to withhold the names of the defendants, to protect the privacy of the children.

Both were charged after a child was hospitalized and tested positive for cocaine, prompting further investigation.

Authorities say they responded to a report of a child foaming at the mouth on Wednesday, May 29. Medical tests confirmed the presence of cocaine in the child's system.

Subsequent testing of the couple's other children reportedly revealed that three of the seven children had cocaine in their systems, with a search of the residence uncovered drug paraphernalia that tested positive for cocaine.

Medical staff at Children's Hospital determined the affected child's condition was life-threatening. Officials say that the investigation also revealed that most of the children had other chemicals in their systems.

The 31-year-old is charged with seven counts of neglecting a child, including six felonies and one misdemeanor. The 29-year-old faces eight counts, including seven felonies and one misdemeanor.

Both defendants entered not guilty pleas on Friday, June 14. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3.
