Dane County man arrested for 12th OWI after crashing into utility pole

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Dane County man was arrested for his 12th OWI on Saturday.

A Dane County Deputy arrested Jeffrey Varnes shortly after 8 p.m. in the Town of Albion.

A concerned citizen called 911 after seeing Varnes' vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed near County Road A and County Road X. Shortly after, another concerned citizen called to report hearing a loud crash followed by the power to her home being knocked out.

The initial responding deputy saw a damaged utility pole and a white truck with damage done to it nearby.

Varnes was attempting to leave the area when the deputy approached.

He was arrested for several charges which include 12th OWI, open intoxicants, and hit-and-run.
