MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a homicide that occurred at Domino's on the city's north side Thursday, Sept. 9.

Police say around 3:10 p.m., a 35-year-old Milwaukee man was fatally shot on Lovers Lane Road near Silver Spring Drive.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Dominic A. Carter.

Carter's friends and family arrived to a heartbreaking scene the day of the shooting.

"I came out and people were crying," Carter's friend, Kumba Keita, said. "I didn't know it was someone very close to me. That's very sad."

Keita said Carter would leave his barbershop nearly every day to buy pizza from the nearby Domino's, but it wasn't for himself.

"He gave it to the kids," Keita said. "The kids come and clean up the parking space. He gave it to them. He always got pizza for them."

Carter had a mentorship program with the kids and said his barbershop "Hair Trappers" references how getting into cutting hair can get kids off the streets.

"One day I saw the boys outside cleaning, and I talked to him about it," Keita said. "He said he's trying to get the youth off the streets and educate them. So he came and explained it to us, and said they're going to be cleaning around the parking space."

Carter co-hosted a podcast titled "Hair Trappers and Soul Snatchers," which talked about some of those ideals.

Family members say Carter leaves multiple children behind.

"I'm shocked this is happening to somebody like that," Keita said. "That's so sad."

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are under investigation.

Authorities are seeking an unknown suspect.
