MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson announced the details for the upcoming Mayor's Masked Ball.
It is the 10th annual fundraiser in support of scholarships for students hoping to attend historically Black Colleges or Universities, also known as HBU's, as well as colleges in Milwaukee and Wisconsin.
Over the past decade, $1.3 million dollars in scholarships have been raised, thanks to the masked ball.
Mayor Johnson says that support is crucial, giving Milwaukee students an opportunity they may not otherwise have.
"It strengthens communities. Strengthens opportunities for young people in Milwaukee. It builds communities and generates generational wealth," said Mayor Johnson.
A report by the United Fund Organization shows HBU graduates earn 57% more in their lifetime than they would without a college degree. They are also more successful at moving students from the bottom 40% of income distribution to the top 60%.
This year's masked ball will be on March 29 at the Phister Hotel. CBS 58's Amanda Porterfield will be emceeing the formal event. Click here for more information.
