Disney's Moana Jr. opens at Gifford School in Racine this Friday
RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Gifford K8 School is putting on six shows of Disney's Moana Jr. starting this Friday, Feb. 2.
It takes a community of help and support, from art students to the vocal department people to help create the set and costume design.
"I've got like seven other directors that are either hair and makeup, lighting, special effects, sound, costuming," said Amy Hernandez Maack a music teacher at Gifford and the director of the show. "So, it does take a community. That's something we've been building at Gifford K8 with every musical that we do."
Last year the school performed Frozen Jr. Every performance is also a chance for students to learn more than just their lines. The teachers tie in lessons of culture and understanding.
"They're singing in Samoan, they're singing in Tokelauan," said Hernandez Maack. "It's a culture that I think a lot of people don't have a lot of access to because they are these islands way in the pacific, so I'm excited to bring it to stage."
For the first time, the school will have two weekends worth of shows.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. Children under 5 are free.
