DNR issues warning to stop harvesting cicadas from state parks

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The DNR has issued a warning to people in Wisconsin, don't harvest cicadas from state parks.

Apparently, people have been collecting the noisy bugs at Big Foot Beach State Park in Walworth County, according to the DNR. There is a state law that says you can't capture and remove any animals, including insects, from the parks.

Why would anyone want to harvest cicadas?

It's difficult to say, though they are said to be a very nutritious food source for birds, mammals, and reptiles.
