Driver crashes into West Allis home
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A shocking and scary moment for a West Allis family after a car crashed into their home on 108th Street and Hayes.
"There was just a loud crash and the whole house, shook and rumbled and I ran downstairs and there was a car in the living room," said Sean Welsh, who lives in the home with his family.
Sean Welsh says he had just gotten his seven-year-old on the bus Wednesday morning, and when he went back into his home, a car crashed into it.
"Our couch was destroyed, it actually got pushed through the living room and through an interior wall."
The West Allis Police Department says the driver of that car was an 18-year-old man from Milwaukee and was taken into custody for reckless driving and negligent operation of a vehicle.
"I think it was an accident," said Stephanie Welsh. "We did speak to some of his family members and he’s okay, which I’m so happy for. I didn’t want anybody to get hurt and so hopefully we can just get it all sorted out."

The couple is dealing with tens of thousands of dollars in repairs, but is counting their blessings saying it could have been a different story if it happened just minutes before.
"He sits right there and plays legos while he waits to get on the bus and so I had it been even five minutes earlier, he would’ve been right where the car came through and I would have been there with him," said Welsh's.
The couple says their beloved pet turtle was found among the rubble.
"The tank sat right in this corner here and that’s what got hit, so the turtle tank basically exploded, and we didn’t know where the turtle was," said Sean Welsh. "As soon as Stephanie got home, she jumped into the room, moving all of the rubble and stuff around and found her on the floor just in her shell and she was okay."
The two have lived in the home for ten years now with their five kids and say speeding and reckless driving are a constant issue.
“We had a car hit the front tree last year." said Stephanie Welsh. "Speed has been a pretty big issue. West Allis Police try their best, but something happens every weekend."
