MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A police pursuit ended in a crash in the Milwaukee River on Tuesday, Feb. 25. 

According to Shorewood police, around 11 a.m., an officer observed a stolen vehicle driving westbound on Capitol Drive and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, police say, initially pulled over but later sped off after officers exited their marked vehicles. 

The fleeing driver went through a backyard near the 1200 block Vienna, before crashing into the Milwaukee River. 

The driver of the vehicle fled on foot and was able to evade officers. 

One passenger was placed under arrest.
