BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Maintaining health during the holidays can be challenging, but fitness professionals recommend simple strategies to stay balanced while enjoying seasonal meals.
Garrett Van Auken, Assistant Personal Training Manager at Life Time Brookfield, joined us on Tuesday, Nov. 19 to discuss some tips.
He suggested starting the day with a morning workout, such as a local 5K or on-demand classes through the Life Time Digital app. Eating a protein-rich breakfast, such as eggs or Greek yogurt, can help prevent overeating later, he said.
Van Auken also emphasized the importance of hydration, especially with sodium-heavy holiday meals, and mentioned that electrolyte powders can support hydration. He recommended mindful eating, encouraging people to prioritize protein-packed turkey while enjoying other dishes in moderation.
A post-meal family walk to aid digestion and incorporate movement into the day is a great way to end a holiday meal, he said.
