Falcons lay first eggs at We Energies' Port Washington station, marking new chapter after bird flu deaths

We Energies

PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- We Energies says two new peregrine falcons at their Port Washington Generating Station have laid their first eggs.

The birds take the place of Brinn and Beasley, who recently died of bird flu. Brinn and Beasley nested at the Port Washington site for more than a decade, producing 22 chicks together.

We Energies says the new birds are an unbanded female falcon and Hamm's Solo, a male falcon born at the Molson Coors Brewery site in Milwaukee in 2023. They say the female falcon will likely lay one or two more eggs in the coming days.

So far, 12 eggs have been laid at all four nest sites this year -- Oak Creek Power Plant, Weston Power Plant, Valley Power Plant, and Port Washington Generating Station.

We Energies says the eggs laid in Oak Creek are expected to hatch toward the end of April, and the others in the weeks to follow.
