A vigil was held in Hare's memory Monday night.

"Of course it’ll never bring my baby back, but he should never ever get out, ever," said Tarshia Hare, Shamarla's mom.

Friends and family gathered in prayer remembering Hare, who was shot and killed in their home along 39th and Townsend earlier this month.

"She was a beautiful person, gave from the heart," said Tarshia Hare. "She loved family, loved their siblings. She loved everybody. She’ll help anyone. Most importantly, she served our country. She stood up for herself before her life was taken."

Hare was a Navy veteran and leaves behind two kids who say Hare was the perfect parent.

"She was amazing, caring, and she was just like a fun person to be around," said Levi Edwards, Shamarla's son.

Hare's family says they are heartbroken at the sudden loss of the 39-year-old they say was taken too soon by a senseless act of violence.

"Overwhelmed," said Tarshia Hare. "Today, more importantly, I’m still having issues with -- financially, trying to lay my daughter down to rest. I’m just devastated and asking for help.”

Hare's family is holding onto each other through the tough times and demanding the person responsible be held accountable.

"It’s just that I hope that nothing like this ever happens to another person. Like no other family has to go through this, because it really, really hurts," said Edwards,
