WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The wait is almost over for the much-anticipated Wisconsin State Fair.

The eleven-day extravaganza is slated to kick off Thursday, Aug. 3, and goes until Aug. 13.

The fair is considered to be the state's largest agricultural showcase.

More than one million people are expected to slide into the Wisconsin State Fair over its eleven-day stretch, and organizers say this might be the best fair yet.

"When I think of Wisconsin State Fair, I think of all the amazing people of Wisconsin, and everyone you get to see when you come to the Wisconsin State Fair," said Tess Kerksen, Director of Public Relations with the fair.

Kerksen went on to say, although the fair has been going on for more than a century, tradition along with innovation will bring a new feel to the fairground.

"Mending those two things together is what we want to do, we are always pushing the envelope with new foods, like creating our Sporkies items, and so many other new shows, and of course new entertainment every single year to keep it fresh."

The fair offers more than just Sporkies or those famous Cream Puffs, but a chance for Wisconsinites to show off their most prized possessions.

"The kids at home are often with these calves from birth: training them, clipping them, feeding them, to get them to today," said Nathaniel Roske of Barron County.

While the fair only goes for eleven days, it creates memories that will last a lifetime.

"When you come to the Wisconsin State Fair, what you're going to feel is years of tradition, years of fun, and years of smiles."

This is the fair's 172nd year running. For more information, click here.
