First class pickleball training facility opens in South Milwaukee
SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A new indoor pickleball court opened this weekend in South Milwaukee.
The Premier Pickleball Club, located on Chicago Avenue, is the first and only indoor pickleball court in Milwaukee County.
It's the fastest growing sport in America and now South Milwaukee has its very own first-class training facility.
"I'm going to be living here, day in day out, work from here because I work from home. It would be amazing," said Chad Lang, Pickleball player.
Designer and architect Raymond Chou says their dream is to make this a regional center for pickleball.
"Milwaukee in terms of designated pickleball courts is a desert. We designed this to be a premier training facility for pickleball," said Chou.
The building was originally a bowling alley, Chou says he designed the club to have designated courts, USA pickleball standard lighting and professional nets.
"This is actually the third pickleball facility I've designed. It's perfect because we have no columns, no obstructions, we have a gallery so you can view it from all positions all the courts and I designed it so it's more open which makes it more social," said Chou.
Pickleball enthusiast and Cudahy resident, Chad Lang, says he's glad he doesn't have to travel over an hour to play.
"Winter is hard for us, we don't have many places to go like last year we were going down to Racine, out to Franklin, it tough even New Berlin so having something right here and having as good of players as we have here it's awesome, we have something we can come to," said Lang.
The Premier Pickleball Club has 12 courts, and Chou says in the next few months two event rooms, a restaurant, and small fitness room will also be added.
