FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Fond du Lac police officer who died of complications of COVID-19 last week was laid to rest Wednesday, Sept. 29.
Funeral services for 26-year-old Joseph Kurer were held Wednesday morning.
Family, friends and law enforcement personnel from across the state attended the service.
As Officer Kurer's body passed the police station one last time, with his colleagues behind him, a final salute -- released from full duty.
Officer Kurer's colleagues are remembering him as a cop who loved his job.
"He came in every day with a huge smile on his face, it was the kind of smile that would lighten up the room," said Lt. Erik Foster. "Everybody would tell you that. He was all around very positive officer, the type of person you wanted to have on your shift."
Officer Kurer is survived by his wife and two children.
A memorial fund has been established for them.
